The National Council of the SPLM-DC party has resolved to change the name of the party to the “Democratic Change Party” (DC).
The resolution was reached at a party convention held in Juba this week.
Party Chairman, Dr Lam Akol told journalists in Juba that the new name will be forwarded to the National delegates’ convention for consideration.
“We have decided to change the name. This is the first step before you go to the convention our party to adopt the new name.”
The National Council in its two day meeting also terminated membership of some members of the National Executive committee.
Lam Akol says a new Deputy Chairman and Secretary General as well as new members to the National Executive committee were elected.
Dr. Akol says although progress has been slow, he is optimistic that the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) is taking charge.
“We are optimistic that we will pick up the pace as we go along, the transitional government of national unity may be formed before the end of the month, “said Dr. Akol.
In the same meeting the National Council urged mediators of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to speak out on the representation of political parties in the process of the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity.
