Dr. Riek Machar: Dinkas have no choice, we are coming to Juba

March 24, 2016, Dr. Riek Machar today promised to go to Juba and “save the Country from Jieng Council of Elders” who have nothing but are destroying the South Sudan who claims 2.5 millions to existed.

Briefing his leadership council this morning in the Kenyan’s capital, South Sudan’s First Vice President and the leader of the armed Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, assures the SPLM/SPLA-IO leaders that they must travel to Juba in the shortest time possible to save the country.

According to the deputy chairman of SPLM-IO Youth Leaguer, Mabior Riiny, the former Vice President could arrive in the capital within the next few days.

We were briefed on his travels to African countries. He then said we should go back to Juba in 10 days if our forces are deployed in Juba.” Said Mabior Riiny, the Deputy Chairman of SPLM-IO Youth League.

Dr. Machar whose return seems to be the only hope to save the country from collapsing, assures the meeting that they must return to the capital to reform and restore the country through democratic means.

Dr. Machar also shared the results of series of consultative meetings held across the continent from Cairo, Johannesburg, Abuja to Addis Ababa in the last few days. He said he has briefed IGAD-Plus leaders and partners on the challenges facing the implementation of the peace agreement.

The IO leader said he had written to IGAD regarding continuation of war by government in Equatoria and Bar Elghazal and the refusal by the government to accept cantonment areas in those regions.

Machar also mentioned the lack of resources to expedite the implementation of the peace agreement and particularly the issue of airlifting the IO troops from various parts of the country to Juba.

He also urged the regional body, IGAD, to press on president Kiir to lift his state of emergency because it effects freedom of movement of the people in the country.

Without forgetting the issue of “28 states”, Machar is confident that IGAD and the United Nations are supporting the stand of IO on the issue of 28 states because 28 states are unlawful and against peace agreement.

So concluded by saying “we must go to Juba to save the country from collapsing and bring reforms through political struggle and not guns”.

A few hours after the briefing 22 SPLA-IO police generals landed in the capital, Juba, to join the integrated police to take over the security of the capital from the regular polices in accordance with the peace agreement and the formation of the Transitional Government of national unity.

The returning officers were welcomed at the airport by two delegations led by Micheal Makuei Lueth, the Minister of Information and the government spokesman, and Gen. Taban Deng Gai, the Chief negotiator of the SPLM/SPLA-IO.
