The leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) would like to inform the people of South Sudan, the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC), the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the international community that the SPLA-In Government (IG) has brought in SAM S-125 batteries that are operational and cited around Juba and Russian technicians were in Juba prior to arrival of RM and have trained operators. The Technicians are staying at Crown hotel. The SAM weapons platforms are fully operational. This is a serious and direct threat to the National security and also a target to air assets by the government of South Sudan.
The SPLA-IO also take note of government’s order re Immigration controls of UNMISS, INGOs, UN etc stated that all employees returning to resume their duties in South Sudan must do so by seeking for clearances from the government before entering into the country.
Furthermore, the government warns the airlines of deportation or a heavy penalty if they allow such category of workers into South Sudan. The government’s intention is to target the national staff base on their ethnicity and civil population leaving Juba Town due to the fear would be targeted also. This would also build the fear of inbound international 3rd force.
We call upon intervention of JMEC and International Community to pressure the government to immediately rescind from its evil decision.
Major Dickson Gatluak Jock
Deputy Spokesperson, SPLA-IO
