The move was requested by West African regional leaders after a Mali summit.

Barrow won the December 1 election, defeating long-serving leader of the small West African nation, Yahya Jammeh.

Jammeh initially conceded defeat, and went as far making a concession phone call to Barrow on live television, wishing him well and also offering to help in any way he could.

The president however receded this decision barely a week later, claiming the poll was marred by irregularities.

West African leaders have been holding talks with him to get him to hand over power voluntarily.

President Jammeh’s legal team has asked the country’s Supreme court to stop Barrow’s inauguration from continuing.

The African Union said I would cease to recognize Jammeh as the president of Gambia after the end of his term on January 19.

West African regional bloc ECOWAS has threatened to use force to get Jammeh to hand over power should he refuse to do so
