IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, Ismail Wais urged the UN Security Council to consider urgent punitive measures for violators of the peace agreement.

Ambassador Wais was briefing the Council on the latest developments in the peace process including the High-Level Revitalization Forum.

The IGAD envoy noted continued violations and fighting even during the 10 day forum that was held in Addis Ababa between the 5th and 16th of this month, and said action is needed to hold those responsible to account.

He asked the UN Security Council to support an IGAD and AU resolution to hold the spoilers of peace to account.
