Oct. 9, 2018, Africans Press have learned that during the ceremony in Khartoum, President Omar Bashir of Sudan has underlined his country’s support for South Sudan until the leaders in that country achieve a comprehensive peace and stability, stressing that Khartoum will do what it take including the abadoned the notion of two army in South Sudan
He was speaking during a meeting in the Republican Palace in the presence of South Sudan President Salva Kiir and his rival, Dr. Riek Machar, as well as other leading Sudanese and South Sudanese figures on Friday night to celebrate the signing of a peace agreement between the feuding South Sudanese leaders.
President Bashir underlined that Khartoum does “not want to interfere in South Sudan’s internal affairs but we will be ready to offer the support that is required by President Salva Kirr for implementation of the peace agreement that was signed by the South Sudanese leaders”.
He told the South Sudanese leaders, who arrived in Khartoum on Friday from the South Sudan capital, Juba and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that the top responsibility of implementing the agreement lies with them.
The South Sudanese spent over 80 days in Khartoum discussing issues that the sub-regional grouping, Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), referred to President Bashir to help them resolve. The rival South Sudan groups, including the government led by President Kiir, signed four different agreements in Addis Ababa early this month.
President Bashir said the two countries look forward to a prosperous future utilizing their rich natural resources and qualified human resources capable of exploiting those natural resources for the benefit of their two countries.
For his part, President Kiir expressed his appreciation and that of the government and people of South Sudan for the efforts exerted by the Sudanese for convincing the South Sudanese parties to conclude the peace agreement in a short time.
“When we came to Khartoum, we did not feel we were strangers but in our own country and we resolved to finish the steps towards peace which is the wish of our people and we are responsible for implementing the agreement,” Kiir said.
